The Hamster Power Project – Are You Serious?

I was asked today if I was serious about the Hamster Power Project.

I thought it might be useful to share my answer here.

The Hamster Power Project, in itself, is a ‘for fun’ thing, in the sense that it evolved from my annoyance with the ‘Green’ craze that is permeating pretty much all business/product presentations and what-have-you.

A number of thought processes led to the Hamster blog entry, not all of which were articulated in the blog itself.

Basically, I carry this undercurrent of frustration as I try to cope with ‘reality’ vs. ‘ideal’ or, otherwise stated, perhaps, as ‘Things As They Are vs. Things As They Should/Could Be’ or ‘Harsh Reality vs. Improbable Possibilities’.

For example, as I was sitting at the company-wide meeting last week, listening to the Boss talk projections and sales numbers and enlightening us as to the impending need to lay some of us off so their slack sales wouldn’t affect their profit margins in this uncertain economy, I was thinking a couple of things:

1) If you stinkin’ corporations hadn’t sold out the American people by sending most of the manufacturing jobs out of the country, folks might actually be able to buy stuff. Do you think sending more of us into jobless limbo now is going to help the economy???

But, mostly, every fiber of me wanted to stand up and say:

Begin Rant
Instead of being a godless company, run by godless people, blinded by the LOVE OF MONEY, with no regard whatsoever for those you view as nothing more than cogs in your machine, replaceable parts, how about putting your faith in Jesus Christ and living your personal and business lives by Biblical principles, honoring God and giving Him the Glory for whatever success you think you may have and trusting in Him to treat employees as brothers and sisters in Christ and even go so far as to have a charitable outlook to the needy around us by donating products as an active corporate ministry? *breath* Do you think that maybe, just maybe, taking a sincere stand for the Lord, following Him, even in business activities might just reap blessings like you would never have imagined in your corporate box of a world???End Rant

Of course, I sat there with my mouth shut.
