What's this? Another Business Opportunity?
If you are anything like me, you have become very cautious
about approaching, or being approached by, what has become an
all too common buzz word on the Internet these days... Business
Opportunity. There are many thousands of so-called business opportunities
out there. I'm sure the majority of them (I am being optimistic)
are very lucrative and worthwhile. However, after being relentlessly
inundated by literally hundreds of spam emails promising vast
quantities of instant wealth and overnight success beyond my wildest
dreams, I have found myself extremely leery of the term "business
opportunity". I am sure that you know what I mean..."Opportunity
is knocking...don't miss out... this one really works...don't
work for someone else all your life... you, too, can make $10,000
a month from your kitchen table in your underwear". Whew! That,
in itself creates some pretty ugly imagery. Now, add to that the
harsh reality that these multi-level marketing (MLM) schemes,
which sometimes actually sound quite feasible, either fail totally
and completely or they make some money for the upper levels and
then fizzle out by the time you or I get involved. Personally,
I look these 'Trojan horses' in the mouth...very closely. I can't
afford to be taken.
That is why I decided to stop looking for opportunities and
start creating opportunities, for myself and for other, like-minded
people. I was pretty certain that trying to make my own version
of the other "business opportunities" was not
the way to proceed. Not only would I be "reinventing the
wheel", I would certainly be inviting imminent failure. What
the world does not need is another MLM. So, before kicking the
dust off of my moccasins and leaving these schemes behind me,
I analyzed some of the buzzwords and did some quiet introspection
to try and determine what is attractive enough about these "opportunities"
that draws people to them in the first place. I found that, for
myself, the most compelling facet lay in the notion of "not
working for someone else all your life". It's not that I
don't like to work, heck, I'm a workaholic if ever there was one.
The part of working for someone else that had been the most bothersome
to me, was the "under-appreciation" factor - drudging
into the work place, day in and day out, knocking myself out to
produce the highest quality work that I was capable of, knowing
full well the whole time that to the "corporate powers-that-be"
my coworkers and myself were nothing but numbers. After the numbers
were run and the "bottom-line" was calculated I would
find myself saying sad farewells, yet again, to another loyal
employee of anywhere from 15 - 30 years who was laid-off with
no more consideration by the "decision makers" than
if they were brushing lint off their sleeves. Enough was enough.
I needed a plan.
Gathering all of my creative abilities and organizational
skills I sat down to inventory my own strengths and weaknesses,
likes and dislikes, interests and hobbies, knowledge and experience
and decided that what I was going to put together would combine
the creative aspects of Real Estate Investing, the power of Internet
e-commerce and the never-diminishing, wealth-building commodity
of Real Estate. Next I launched an extensive campaign of intense
research into the existing Real Estate web sites and directories,
seeking, not so much what they offered, but rather, what they
did not offer, for I knew that in that void is where I
would find my niche. And here I sit, my friends, happily typing
away in my home -office as I set before you the culmination of

[Note:They go on to say they refuse any banners that lead
to competing web sites!]
YIKES! If they are able to get that kind of money for banner
ads, more power to them. But, if that is the case, their subscribers
must not be aware that banner ads no longer have the drawing
power that they once did. Folks have just become blind to them,
and though we implement banner advertising in various areas of
our own web site, they are only a secondary source of linking
and are primarily there to provide some color and eye-candy on
the pages. Think about it, when was the last time or with what
frequency do you visit a web site simply because
there was a banner flashing at you? Studies have shown that Internet
users are much more likely to pay attention to textual links within
relevant content and text-based advertisements such as those being
implemented by Internet greats such as Google. Oddly enough, here
comes one now!
